Benedict Arnold : Why Did He do It?

Benedict Arnold was a member of our own Militia. He lead the fight of Ft. Ticonderoga, which the Patriots had won. It was an historic win for our country, but not as much for him. For you see, nobody on his own side treated him with the respect he deserved. Although his temper often made things awkward between him and his fellow army men , he mad the best of things. Most of the time, he would just ignore them, and hang out with some captured red coats in there jail cells. But he stayed loyal to his country. He then became appointed commander. But tragically, yesterday, after all of his tolerance of foolish happenings, that came to him, he resigned his commander post, yesterday, July, 1777.
This is a great loss for the continental army. We will long suffer from this extreme loss. This may cost us the war, but we must recover. We shall strategize until we have found the proper ways. Maybe he shall return, or maybe he shall not, but we still shall win.

MAIN IDEA OF THE BOOK CHAINS

I believe the main idea for this book is to prove that you should always have faith, hope and courage. Also that you should make wise decisions like Isabelle. She has to protect her little sister and take responsabilities for her even though she is still a child herself.

Risk

In the story we read, I could relate the man to Isabel. He took many risks climbing Mt Everest and manuevering his way around giant ice formations, and Isabel delivering secret messages to Curzon. If something bad happened to either of them while they were doing those things, the results could have been fatal.

REVISED PERSONALITYY PROFILEE.

tim:
He really likes his older brother. But he is a very confused child, He doesn't know to go to patriots or loyalist side. To choose his dad or brother? He also is very brave for talking life threatening situations. By that i mean he is a trader. That's Tim for you.

Tim has a great personality but doesn't really express his feelings. Although you can tell what he is thinking. Also he loves both his dad and his brother and doesnt know whos side he should take so he is in a hard place in life. Tim is really happy when he sees his brother and then he feels bad for lying to his dad.

Sam-Risk

I think the guy in into thin air was willing to risk everything to be one of the not so many people that have climbed mount everest. He probably didn't have much too his life to begin with so he didn't mind doing it.

Sam risked his life by going to war. He went to war as a patriot and is fighting against britain. He was brave for doing this just like the guy from Into Thin Air.

But tragically, this day, last year, after all of his tolerance of foolish happenings, that came to him, he resigned his commander post, last year, July, 1777.
This was a great loss for the continental army. We will long suffer from this extreme loss. One of our greatest commanders is gone, and the effect of this event could be, but is not limited to, the loss of the war, and many other consequences to follow. I dare say, that it is our own countries fault, that we are so insubordinate, that we can't even give a fellow countrymen the respect and honor that he deserves. If our country that is fighting so hard to be independant, can't even perform a simple task as that one, we are not ready to form our own country, by far.
These words, are my own words that I have said, and I live up to them. But yesterday, this country has learned of the news, that Benedict Arnold has committed treason against his own country. Although I am not at all bewildered by this, I will never get over the fact, that we-as Americans, had to push him so hard, that he would have to oppose sides, and be with the enemy. Many citizens are asking why this stunning event has happened, but I believe that if you search deep enough, you will find the answer.

Personality profile

I have more of an idea of how tim's perasonality is. He is Truthful about things but isn't the bravest person. He is very confused on which side to go on and he doesn't know if he sould side with this father or his brother. They both put up good arguements which makes it very hard for him to diecide.

Summery (sam)

Chapters 1-3 where mainly about Sam and Life arguring about what side to choose and why and why not they should go to war with britain. Sam made up his mind, stole his father's gun and went to war Tim promised not to say anything about it to their father. Then Sam came back

Risking

I think that Krakuer was willing to risk everything for a pretty good reason. He was attempting to climb Mount Eversest, the tallest mountain in the world. I think he was risking it all because to actually successfully climb the mountain is an amazing feat.

A character from Chains who risked there life was Isabel More than once actually. First, one Ruth laughed at an extremely innapropriate time, Isabel took the blame. Luckily, she was only slapped (quite hard actually) across the face. The consequences could have been worse. Secondly she risked her life to tell Curzon very important information that was useful to Curzon's Master. She could have gotten lost in the streets, or been caught by the Lockton's.

The Risk!!! Dun Dun Dun!!!

1.I think he was willing to risk everything because he might of not had much. Or he wanted to be know throughout the world. Another thing could be that he wanted to impress his friends or the ladies :). My last guess would be that it might have been a bet from a dare. Oh! wait, he might have done it to get noticed by people and do it for a living.

2.A character from Sam that risked his life was Sam. He risked his life by going to war with the Patriots. He was fighting for freedom against Britain. I think it would be the right thing to do because he's risking his life for something he believes in.

Risks

I think Krakauer risked his life because he must have felt that it was a life changing experice and that it was worth it.
Isabel also risked her life to tell curzon about her masters plan. I think it was worth it because she made a deal with him for her knowledge and her freedom.
1.i think he wanted to try something new.also he wante dto wright a book about MT. Everest , and the best way to laern about MT. Everest is climb it.

2.my charecter is iseble and the rist she took was going to the meetings with curzon and telling about the list of names. the other risk she takes is being a patriot in a loyalist house hold.

Wednesday, March 11, 2009

The battle of Bunker Hill was technically the first huge battle in the American Revolutionary War.

Main Idea(little postet)

Tim was talking about the Tavern And beer
* Patriots came in after a well fought battle against the red coats

Risking:

I believe that by letting things slide by Tim is being in a risk of death. He hasn't even picked a side in the American Revolution. I think that it's a little extream; that Sam would actually steal his father's gun. However, even worse is the fact that he's gone to war on the other side! Tim has taken a risk by keeping to himself Sam's location.

Not to mention disobeying his own father! A Tory that Tim's father respected came into their tavern asking a favor of him. He asked if he could lend tim for a walk to fairfield. On this walk he had wanted Tim to carry a very important file of papers. Soon a very patriotic women that Tim, and Sam know very well who responds to the name of: Betsy arrived to greet Tim on his walk. She found out that Tim was heading to Fairsfield, and found out that the file was about Sam's return. As well as a plan for a surprise attack to be ordered to kill his brother, and the other patriots arriving.
I think he was willing to risk it because he wanted to be the first man to climb Mount Everest. He wanted the glory of being praised for climbing this gigantic mountain. He sounded quit adventures in my opinion. He had, had experience climbing mountains before and thought it would be a challenge to climb the life threatening Mount. Everest! He survived an avalanch and freezing temperatures that he survived to tell the tale.
krauckauer and his friends risked ther lives bercuse they wanted to be the first people to klim mount everist . eight men lost there lives doing so becuase of this fator. i really don know how but this was a very big task for them

tim was the charicter i chose . when he

Risking

I think that Krakauer was willing to risk everything to make it to the top because then he would he would becomethe first to scale Mt. Everist. He was risking it all because then he would become big news.
Isabel reminds me of Krakauer because she risks things like him. Like the one time Isabel risked going into the Colonies military camp. That was a big threat because her master is a loyalist, if she got caught then she may get killed.

Risking

I think he risked his life for the glory. Jon wanted to be able to climb to the top and tell people. Also prove to himself that he could do it. He was persistent about one of his greatest accomplishments.

I would pick Isabel because at one part in the story she ran away. Isabel just went to see if she could because her and Ruth didn't want to be slaves. Isabel risked her life. She could have been killed if she was caught.
I think that Krauckauer was risking everything to get to the top because he might have wanted to be remembered. Climbing might just be (or just was)his calling. It might just be something he wanted fulfilled. It could be his dream, or maybe his sole purpose in life.

Isabel is the person who is risking everything in my book Chains. She's risking her life and her sister's life. She is also risking both her and her sibling's freedom. Isabel is placing her trust in total strangers' hands. Her very existence depends on the patriot's success.

risking

I think he wanted an adventure and also wanted to accomplish something he would be remembered for. Also, i think he wanted to prove to himself and the world that he could climb mt. everest and survive.

isabel risked her life to give kurzon information about lockton. it was worth the risk, because lockton got arrested from that information. She might even get sold or set free from that information.

Risking

I think that is was worth it because he had a goal and he wanted to accomplish it. He should do his best to accomplish his goal. Once he accomplishes it he would know how much persistantance that he had towards one of his greatest goals. He sure proved to himself that he was strong and didn't give up!

I think Isabel risks a lot. She almost ran away from her master's house just for Ruth. She came back home though. I think it was worth it because she does not deserve to be a slave. No one deserves to be a slave!!!

Comparing

1. The reason why climbers risk everything for climbing mountains is because they want their name to show or that is just on of their hobbies.
2. I think that Krakauer and Sam are like each other because they both do something they want and fight for it when their answer could resolve to be death!

Risk

I think Krakauer risked everything to have the thrilling experience. Also, he probably did it to gain more confidence and to see the sights. If I had to pick someone that risked everything, i would pick Isabel. She is a good choice because she risked her life.

Isabel risked her life to save others. She saved General Washington's life, which was very important. It was worth it because with out Washington, we wouldn't of won the revolution. We wouldn't of ever been free from British rule.

Risking

I understand why Mr. Krakauer probably wanted to climb Mt. Everest. I think it's just that knowing that you could, just that, makes you feel so much better about it. And that's totally true! For example, I ALWAYS just could not swim, and I was actually afraid of it. Kinda weird, I know. Anyways, when I turned eight, I got to the point where I was worried what would happen when I was traveling and I got left in a lake or something. So I went to the pool inched in, and just turned my arms in wings. They flailed, but I figured it out. Then I made it so I could really swim.

This amounts to the same example set in the book Chains. Isabel, the main character, suffers a life living as a slave in Revolutionary-War Era America. She had a mother and father, but they died, leaving her in charge of Ruth, her younger sister. Back to the point, she recently had the rebels causing problems for their owners, and the redcoats are moving in on their town. Isabel gets chances to get free, and she does make the best of everything, so when Mr. Lockton, her owner, had a desk with names of Loyalists on it, she escaped the house, by the veil of night. She proceeded to the rebel fort, and reported this to a General.

As you could read, she was willing to make that Huge risk of leaving the house, with the events if she were caught would be beatings, starvation, and other types of torture. But she took it, and with a great reason. If she got it right, she would very likely be set free, or better yet, her and Ruth set free.

personality Tim

Tim is an adventureous, nice, worried kid. He helps his father any way he can. He wishes his brother Sam wouldn't get involved in the war agaist Britain because his dad is loyal to the king and he is sort of fighting his father with guns. Tim has a cool personality and helpful

RISKZZZ!

i think Krakauer was willing to risk everything to make it to the top, because it's what he believed he needed to do. He set his heart to finish the task, and wanted to keep going until it was done.

Isabel risks getting caught and punished by her owners, by trying to get them arrested. She also risks getting caught everytime she goes out at night.

riskinggg.

I think that Krakauer risked it all because he just wanted to climb Mt. Everest. Some people do it for sport, or just for the thrill. It could be possible that he was trying to find something.

Isabel basically risked her life when she went to go tell Col. Regan about Lockton. First of all, she's a slave, there always risks whaen you're a slave. Also, she's LEAVING her master's home and actually GOING somewhere to tell him.

-marissaaaaa<3

RIsKINg

He was problably willing because he wanted to be known as one who climbed the moutain, and climbed to the top. People might think of him as a stronger person.

I think Isabel risked her life to keep her sister safe. Isabel might have done this because she never wants to see her sister get hurt or injured. I picked Isabel becasue in every chapter she shows courage. Yes and no fo the risk she decided to take. Yes because she can protect herself, and no because what about helping her life?

<33
cayla

Risking

If I could chose a character from Chains, I would probably chose Isabel and Ruth's mom. She risked a lot to have kids, even if it was not her fault that she got pregnant. She still had to teach them right from wrong, and to teach them to behave as a slave would. She knew that if she didn't teach them right, she would get punished, along with her kids and she wouldn't let that happen.

Isabel is a girl that is very brave and coragous. She's smart, caring, and respectful. She is always protecting of her sister and well mannered. She's proper and sneaky, but not selfish. She is also curious and intelligent.

Ruth is going to perservere until she earns freedom for herself and Ruth.

Main Idea In a Sentence

Revised Character Personality

Adding to my origanal thoughts. She has shown that she cares about her sister more than herself, and has also shown that she doesn't like riddles, she is very much a straight to the point kind of person.

Isabel : New review

Isabel was recently given a personality post by me, and here I am to update it on my thoughts.

Isabel is overall caring for everyone who cares for her; in other words, she follows the golden rule. She is VERY brave, just like my other post, and is proven by many quotes, one being that after Ruth had laughed (in a seriously inappropriate time), Isabel took the blame, got slapped, and commented with her thought Better me than Ruth, Better me than Ruth. She is not as curious as I thought she would be, but every bit as sneaky. This is proven in between Chapter 9-10, Isabel planned to sneak out, and meet Curzon with the protection of the night. Isabel takes a lot of pain, and keeps going, one of the couple of things that impress me highly. And especially in this case, I would be impressed with her perseverance.

main idea

isabel and her sister ruth are slaves, who were sold after their owner died, even tho they were supposed to be freed. now isabel is trying to get them back to rhode island, and away from their abusive owners

Thursday, March 5, 2009

Personality Profile (edited)

Isabel is still a very polite girl. Also, she still is slave-like because she has a new owner and the owner is very mean. One thing that I didn't know about Isabel is that she says what she means. In the book she tells a boy that she was chasing that, he best slow down!! I think that Isabel is also very caring and sister-like to her sister Ruth. She cares for her and watches out for her.

Main idea in a sentence

The main idea of the book is....
Isabel and her sister are living with a new slave family after their old master died.

Isabel

Isabel is courageous, or brave. Also, she is confused. There is a lot going around in her head. Last, she is also scared or tense, such as when she overheard the conversation about when they were talking about killing George Washington.

Isabel is a very brave and reluctant slave. her main goal is to take her sister and herself to freedom. Isabel is willing to go to great hights to get her freedom, such as going to the Patriots as a spy. she is so daring that she will even spy on her own master at the risk of being 'beaten bloody' i think she is a truely admirable person.
i think iseble is brave becasue she ran away and she came back.i also think she is assertive because she takes leadership withher sister.

Isabel is a little girl that is a slave in a house. She is very respectful and well-mannered, but can be loud and rude at times. She looks after her sister, Ruth. She can get scared easily. She can also get bored easily, and is usually very quiet.

Isabel
Now that I have read more of Chains, and gotten to see more of Isabel and her personality, I have gathered that she is a very smart girl who knows right from wrong, and what to do in certain situations. She is also extremely brave at times, and she will do whatever to protect Ruth from any danger. But she is warmhearted and will be nice to people even if they are nice to her, which is smart because than they wont beat her. Overall she is a well rounded person who knows her stuff and who has more street smarts than book smarts, but thats not her fault. She is smarter than any adult now a days. (Most likely)
