Main Idea

So far (I have read 11 chapters) I think that the main idea of the story is that she is chained to a Loyalist owner and is a Patriot that wants to get away with her little sister.

The book chains is basically about a strugle for freedom.

My Brother Sam is Dead:

The brother of Tim is Sam. He wants to rebel in the Revolutionary war, so he leaves for the Patriots' side in the war. He leaves even though people were trying to persuayed Sam out of going. He steals his fathers' gun, and leaves with it for battle. Sam comes back for a temporary time, and Tim then brings him home. When their father discovers Sam then Sam runs away. That's how far I got.

So far Isabels and Ruths owners aunt died and left Ruth and Isabel the gift of freedom. But was unable because the lawyer who arranged the aunts affairs ditched them and went to Boston or something. Then Isabel and Ruth were both sold to a rich white couple who are loyalists. (most of the time). She met a guy who told her about her owners secrets and what they do to get by. That is pretty much all that has happened.

When i get stuck on a word or a sentence i just skip over it and i usally figure out what it means. If that doesn't work i will try and sound the word out. If that doesn't work i reread the paragrgh or sentence.

When I don't understand a word that I am reading, I usually re-read the sentance and look at the words surrounding it.If that doesn't work, I usually just keep reading. Sometimes the meaning will come to me later or show up again in a sentance where I can figure out it's definiton.

When I read Chains, and i come across a word I can't pronounce, or I don't know, I like to pull out my glossary. I write the word down then, and try to put it into text. Then I get a dictionary and put it into text again, comparing the two. Then I add my original into my glossary.

what i use to read is like when i come to a word that i don't know, i finish my sentence and then if i still don't understand it ill write it down and look it up in a dictionary.
